Driving Directions:From the intersection of US 92 and FM 1013 in Spurger, travel 3.3 miles east on FM 1013. Turn left onto CR 4442 and continue for 0.3 mile north. The two graves are located approx. 302 feet to the left on a bluff overlooking the Neches River. The cemetery contains a one granite headstone that marks the graves of Ephraim Thompson and his wife Susannah. The inscription reads: Husband and WifeEphraim SusannahThompson Grigsby1794-1836 1799-1849The single granite marker appears to be a relatively new feature. No trace of an original marker could be found. There may also be unmarked graves in the area. The cemetery is located on a heavily wooded bluff overlooking the Neches River, and it is threatened by a receding bank line and neglect. The cemetery is not maintained and is not fenced. The property on which the cemetery is located was for sale at the time of this survey. |
