Driving Directions:From US 287 in Grapeland, go 0.1 mile west on FM 227. Turn right at FM 1272 and go 2.2 miles north and west. Cemetery is immediately north of road, adjacent to mobile home. Very overgrown and difficult to see. Two broken concrete headstones. This cemetery is highly endangered. It is not a map feature, and there are no cemetery signs. The cemetery is located on private property, and it is not maintained. The cemetery extends into the yard of a mobile home, and a portion of the cemetery may have been destroyed with the construction of FM 1272. Only two fragmented concrete headstone were visible during this survey. One headstone reads:J.H. Husband of Amanda HerodBorn Sept. 19, 1833Died Dec. 30, 1874"He has gone to the mansions of rest"The second headstone inscription reads:"In after time we will meet her." The dates and name are missing. There are likely several unmarked graves in this cemetery. |
