Driving Directions:From US 287 in Grapeland, go 11.7 miles west on FM 227. Turn right at CR 2255 and go 1.2 miles north to sharp bend. Turn right into West Hicks Cemetery and go 884 ft. southeast. The cemetery is located approx. 266 ft. southeast of West Hicks Cemetery. This cemetery is highly endangered. It is not map feature and there are no cemetery signs posted. The cemetery is not regularly maintained, and it is not fenced. The cemetery contains three marked graves and possibly as many as 15 unmarked graves. One of the marked graves is enclosed by an ornamental cast iron fence, and two have newer granite markers. Family descendents are planning to erect a fence around the three marked graves. The location of the 15 unmarked graves is unclear, but they are reported to be northwest of the marked graves, upslope. All fieldstone markers have disappeared. |
