In Richmond go north on 2nd Street, left on Clay Road, and immediately right. Continue on private diirt road past Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Cemetery NE of Mt. Carmel Cemetery and Fire Field .3 miles east of gravel road on Brazos River. Site is overgrown with yupons and brush. It is impossible to locate without a guide. Had to locate with GPS coordinates taken by Robert Crosser of FBCHS and still had difficulty locating because stone had fallen and was covered with dirt. Wild hogs have broken the stone but the inscriptions are still legible. This site was kept by the previous land owner until his death in the mid-1980s.This is the grave of William M. Jenkins, d. 1857. The marker was erected by F.N. Slack & J.W. Frost (land owner in 1800s). This is believed to be the grave of a man passing through the area who was buried where he died in 1857. No other information is known about this site. |
