Marker Text German and Wendish settlers founded Good Hope community in the 1880s and established a school by 1887. The earliest marked grave in the community cemetery, dated 1889, is for Dora Vick. George Kruse, also buried here, ran a rock quarry across the road that supplied fill stone for construction of the Galveston Seawall. A spur of the Houston & Texas Central carried the rock to the coastal city. Good Hope Cemetery contains 12 known graves; several tombstones bear German inscriptions. Historic Texas Cemetery - 2003
