This congregation was organized in November 1858 by Brother Benton Sweeney and nineteen charter members. Served by traveling ministers for many years, the members worshiped in a number of buildings erected at various sites in town. Known as the Christian Church until the early 1900s, the congregation moved to this site in 1931. A new sanctuary was built here in 1988. Throughout its history the congregation has counted among its membership many prominent Madisonville citizens and community leaders. Sesquicentennial of Texas Statehood 1845-1995. |
