Existing congregations at Pilot Knob and Elm Grove petitioned the Little River Presbytery in 1891 to combine. Settlers R.D. Love, Martha Love, B.W. Stapp, W.W. Tucker, J.R. Dean and J.L. Poole purchased land for the new congregation. They built an 1896 sanctuary and 1898 tabernacle with local lumber. Under the leadership of J.D. Potts in 1925, a new larger sanctuary with a hipped roof and open eaves replaced the original church. For over 130 years, Oak Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church has continued to serve the community. Recorded Texas Historic Landmark - 2024 |
