In 1900, the New Denison and Sherman Railway Company built a pleasure park on the same site as the company's interurban power plant and offices. Their site lay halfway between the two cities. The interurban line and park opened on May 1, 1901. Guests enjoyed a zoo, an artificial lake with bandstand anchored in the middle, baseball park, dance pavilion and summer theater. The largest structure was a two-story casino, which held events such as dances, Vaudeville acts, conferences and competitions. In 1929, the park was sold to the Woodlake Club, who used it primarily for events such as the annual North Texas Baptist Encampment. Outdoor events ceased in the 1970s, and remaining buildings became privately held by club members. |
